Black-necked Grebes 14th April 2019

Hearing that there was a record number of Black-necked Grebes at a local lake, I hopped on to the first train of the morning, with the light looking perfect. In what was a year where I was plagued by poor light, the clouds drew in as I approached the site. If that was not enough, the heavens opened and I was forced to find a handy bush as the heavens opened with a hail storm!

However, undeterred but with the sun gone for the day, I sat at the water's edge, using a fortuitously positioned tussock as a little camouflage and a couple of birds approached down to 20 metres.  The results are acceptable, I think.

What a privilege to see these amazing birds at such close quarters.
